I have used the HN-23 and HN-24, but I recollect the HB-fifteen would exist nicer as it is reversible and is deeper.

Re: Lens Hood for the 35-seventy/2.viii

The HB 15 is a tad longer and stores reversible like stated above. The HB 26 works also. I had an actress one lying around left over from a long departed 70-300 G lens and it'south what I use. fifteen & 26 are virtually identical from what I can tell:

Re: Lens Hood for the 35-seventy/2.eight

I use the HB-15 on my 35-70mm/D200 and I don't find any vignetting at all. As the previous affiche stated, it'due south very handy to be able to reverse the lens hood for storage too.

1 thing to bespeak out here ... if you lot are thinking of moving over to an FX body at anypoint, the HB-15 volition definitely vignette badly. I'm currently trying to find a usefull petal lens hood that can be used with the 35-70mm on an FX trunk ... any ideas ?

Paul.

Re: Lens Hood for the 35-70/2.8

I'm a noob, but thought I could contribute here. I've been using the HN-23. It screws into the filter band, and tin can't be reversed. It's fabricated of metallic, non plastic. It doesn't vignette on a DX sensor at all on this lens throughout the range, and has a relatively small diameter and depth. I really shop the lens in my pocketbook with hood on at all times. The inner portion of the hood is textured (scallopped?) to presumably reduce reflections. Another person recommended it in a prior thread for this lens as it afforded better flare protection than the larger hoods when used with a DX sensor.

HB fifteen or HN 23

Looks like just these two are in the running. I surely would prefer something which can be reversed, but yep the D3 is imminent, so am not certain which one ot go in for.

I utilise a generic rubber one :-)

I use a generic condom i. It does non vignette and it colapses for transportation. Also, the lens cap can be put inside the hood, cliping in the hood's filter thread.

A petal one will not do because the lens front rotates when focusing.

Re: HB 15 or HN 23

I don't know what I missed here, but the HN-23 vignettes like crazy at 35mm.  Information technology's obvious, without even taking an epitome.

Re: Lens Hood for the 35-70/2.8

Hey. I am from Argentine republic and hither is very hard to buy new lenses because several reasons similar the exchange of the our currency and the US dolar, inflation and now the lockdown.

So I had a strike of luck and bought this lens but without the original hood. Besides I read the Ken Rockwell review of this lens and he recommended for integration within a larger professional Nikon organisation, to utilize a 62mm -> 77mm adapter ring, and care for this as 77mm lens.

So what happened with the hood if you program to apply it in a D-750? Can I apply a different hood model for 77mm instead of the original HB-1?

Thanks in advance and sad for my bad English. Regards.

Outset things first. You do non accept to accept a hood. You may want i for known reasons.

It is not clear why you desire to put a 62mm-to-77mm adapter on your lens -- just so that it looks like a 77mm lens and is so treated similar ane??? It volition not be a different lens.

Assuming that y'all do to put this footstep-up ring on your lens, then yous automatically accept a hood -- especially if you put a 77mm UV protection filter on it. This combination has about the same issue every bit the HB-i hood. You can screw into the step-up band an boosted tertiary political party hood, but be careful that you lot do not get strong vignetting -- especially near the 35mm cease of the focal length.

Yes . . . it is a difficult world we live in today.

So I had a strike of luck and bought this lens but without the original hood. Too I read the Ken Rockwell review of this lens and he recommended for integration within a larger professional Nikon system, to use a 62mm -> 77mm adapter ring, and care for this every bit 77mm lens.

He is suggesting to use the adapter ring if you accept other 77mm filters which you want to utilise with the lens then you don't have to buy new 62mm filters.

And then what happened with the hood if you plan to utilise it in a D-750? Tin can I employ a different hood model for 77mm instead of the original HB-i?

If you utilize the 77mm adapter and then yeah you would have to utilize a unlike hood as the HB-1 is a 62mm hood and volition not fit on a 77mm adapter.

I accept the lens and the HB-1 62mm hood and it works fine for the lens.

The HB-1 is a relatively shallow hood . . . if you use a deeper hood then it may crop the corners of any images taken at the 35mm wide stop of the zoom range as the hood encroaches on the lenses' field of view cut off the corners so you go black shadows in the corners . . . at the 70mm end a deeper hood may exist ok . . . there will exist a point in the zoom range where the cropping disappears . . . very frustrating to work with!

At that place are lots of the HB-1 hoods available on eBay . . . I think that is where I got mine . . . many from Japan and may take awhile to receive . . . particularly in the current pandemic world we alive in.

I would recommend finding an HB-one . . . if y'all go the step up route so you lot would take to experiment with unlike hood sizes to find one that works and doesn't crop your images at any focal length.

Thanks in accelerate and sorry for my bad English. Regards.

You are welcome and your English is fine!

Practiced luck with your quest!

Best,
